Mental Health Resources

Many high school teens carry stress and anxiety on a daily basis. The pressures of school, sports, and life are constant. But there is also the uncertainty about potential college opportunities that weighs heavily on the minds of student-athletes and their families.

Sometimes it becomes too much.

There are plenty of resources for mental health, but we wanted to share some things that could help you identify potential issues with your student-athletes. We wanted to produce something easy for you to share.

Here are some signs to be aware of when gauging your student-athletes mental wellness:

  • Feeling sad
  • Trying to harm oneself or others
  • Out-of-control behaviors
  • Sudden, overwhelming fear
  • Not eating, significant weight loss, or weight gain
  • Seeing, hearing, or believing things that are not real
  • Using drugs or alcohol repeatedly
  • Drastic changes in mood, behavior, or personality
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Intense worries

You see them almost every day and probably have a good idea of who might be struggling and in need of a check-in.

Those check-ins could be critical.

We’ve attached two resources to share with your student-athletes, including the video (above).
